Do you mean give it a new volser or rename the dataset on the tape?
If giving it a new volser then your operations people should do that and I suspect you would lose any data on the tape although there may be means of recovering it.
If renaming the dataset then this can be done by copying the tape to another.
The problem I have is that people can explain things quickly but I can only comprehend slowly.

Thank you Nic for your promt reply

I meant the new volser. So can we rename a volser of a tape using IEHINITT utility?, it does'nt matter if we lose the data.

IEHINITT will assign a new volser. If you have a tape management system, it may have a special init utility pgm to use to coordinate physical volumes with the tape database.
