IMS DB access by online and batch at time

IMS DB access by online and batch at time

Can a batch program and online program access ims data base at same time in update mode, If not what is the possible way to achive the update from both online and Batch. Please any body came across inhibition give your view.

If your installation runs BMP - batch message processing - the answer is YES.

Listen to Sandy for the correct answer. BMP and MP programs can run at the same time. However your environment should also have DBRC installed to coordinate locking mechanisms and enable a decent recovery in case of a problem.
Please note that there are 2 types of 'Batch'; BMP and DL/I. If you are trying to run a DL/I (pure batch) program when the onlines are up you are asking for trouble. BMP is the way to go (as Sandy mentioned)

When I tell somebody to RTFM or STFW I usually have the page open in another tab/window of my browser,
