Try an internet search for "proportional font".

Here is a count¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦123
This one lines up in the input box 123

Here's the same in the code tags (which preserve multiple spaces and uses a proportional font):

Here is a count¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦123
This one lines up in the input box 123

Now it lines up in the Code tags (adding four ¦s):

Here is a count¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦123
This one lines up in the input box 123

But doesn't in with a non-proprotional foint:

Here is a count¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦123
This one lines up in the input box 123

So find a proportional font, find out how to set it for your e-mail, and you'll be done.
