Lost of data at ADACMP DECOMPRESS execution

When a DECOMPRESS operation on a file is being performed, is this operation canceled if the file is in use, or is the file locked when decompression is taking place?
I mean, if an UPDATE or STORE is done at the time of DECOMPRESSION, those changes will not appear in the result?
