Hi,
I want to know whether Changing the Expdt of a dataset is possible?
If yes then how?

My dataset is in DASD not in tape.

TIA.

The safest thing to do is to talk to your storage management people. If the SMS ACS routines are correctly set up you will not be able to change the retention criteria applied by the MGMTCLAS applied to your dataset.

Still talk to your storage people, they know the setup better than anyone else.

If you create an SMS managed data set with an expiration date. The expiration date showed up in the VTOC and in the catalog entry.

Then delete the data set and reallocate it on a non-SMS managed volume. The expiration date will show up in the VTOC, but not in the catalog entry.

At my shop, I then repeated the test. I was able to update both the catalog entry and the VTOC for the SMS managed data set. I was able to update the catalog entry, but not the VTOC, for the non-SMS managed data set.

Note: You cannot use the EXPDT parameter to change the expiration date of an existing SMS data set.

If this is possible then.. i m updating my expdt in catalog as 2009.300 and in VTOC if its 2009.350..
Then "listds / history "ll give u which date?
