PDS/E Compress/Space Management for CICSLIB's

Hi,

Before we converted our datasets from PDS to PSD/E, we used to have a job that was part of the Production Implementation Application to perform a COMPRESS on the Live CICSLIB Datasets while the CICS Applications were down.

Since we are now using PDS/E’s, a Compress is not available, but the fact that we are using PDS/E (Version 2), the system is supposed to perform Space Management.
Because the CICSLIB Datasets are ‘in use’ virtually 24/7, We're not sure how this space management is being performed (if at all).

Do any of you know how space management is being performed on PDS/E Datasets that are ‘in use’ most of the time?

A PDS/E has multiple b-tree structures to access members. Merely adding / updating / deleting member will keep the b-tree structures maintained. What other space management do you think is missing? IBM knew CICS would be using PDS/E data sets and hence I'm sure they considered 24x7 operational environments in working on the PDS/E access.
