Named Counter Server

Postby xboss » Sat Dec 18, 2010 2:27 am

Going through CICS system definition guide and looking around,
1. CICS data sharing servers
2. Setting up and running Named Counter Server
I did not get clear understanding of what is the need of Named Counter Server? How it is tied with Temporary Storage?
Your input to the topic would be appreciable.

thanks,

Thanks enrico-sorichetti for the link, appreciated. I already looked at those links on dear google. :)
I was just wondering if anybody has some specific findings to discuss. That was the sole intention creating this thread.

the link I posted answered the first part of Your question ( the way You posted it )
Named Counter Server need/nice to have
the need can be explained by looking at the issue from an application point of view
start widening Your scope of vision :D

all depends on what You mean by related
named counter servers and shared temporary servers are not related,
cics manuals talk about them in the same place because sharing in a sysplex
using the coupling facility has common sets of rules and concerns that apply to both!
for example
There is no difference between the temporary storage server and the named counter server relating to recovery, in that both servers store all of their data in the coupling facility structure, so it will be lost if the structure fails or the coupling facility is re-IPLed.

I was just wondering if anybody has some specific findings to discuss
kind of catch 22 :D
if people replying had findings to discuss they would start asking, wouldn' t they :D
since You did not really tell clearly Your concerns, it is difficult for us to find something to talk about!
cheers

Hello,

but sometimes fish comes from nowhere if you happen to wait spreading your fishing net
Sometimes. . .

Other times the net merely snags on some underlying logs or brings up a snake or other creature that takes away from the fishing. . . ;)
Hope this helps,
