Starting CICS

Postby dfx1 » Sun Jun 16, 2013 10:48 pm

Hi,

I haven't any practical experience of CICS or BMS. I want to work through a BMS tutorial, but I need to start CICS. How do I actually do that? I know how to log on to TSO, start ISPF and create a cobol program, that's about it.
Thanks

Basically - you do not. Someone else does - DB group, operators or whoever. Look at SDSF (or your shop's equivalent) and you should see CICS - or several CICS - running. You need to find out which one you should be using for your self-education.
The problem I have is that people can explain things quickly but I can only comprehend slowly.
Regards
Nic

I meant to say "Open a CICS session". The tutorial is telling me to assemble my mapset, open a CICS session and install the program. I'm lost.

Hello and welcome to the forum,

I suspect this means you need to log onto the proper CICS "region".

Ask someone in your organizaton which CICS you should use. No one heree at the forum can know this as it is completely site-specific.
Hope this helps,
