Tab in Panels vertically instead of horizontally

Postby atodpquery » Sat Dec 27, 2008 5:37 am

Hello all,

I have a perception that tab in panels can only tab across but not vertically. Am I correct?

If it can tab vertically, how can it be done or where is the reference material? How can I put some trace on the panels.

 Thanks.

The NEWLINE key is what jumps down vertically when a line has more than one input field..

Bill,

Thanks very much.

What controls the NEWLINE key. You mean the Enter Key. I received a query that NEWLINE key does not jumps down vertically when a line has more than one input field. Where should I start looking into this and fix it. Is there a mapping in the keybroad or set by the PFKEY functions.

Thanks in advance.

I use IBM Personal Communications (PCOM) for my 3270 emulator. It has a keyboard mapping function. My PC key for ENTER is mapped to NEWLINE. It jumps down when a line has multiple input fields.

What are you using?

I know we use 3270 emulator. Mapping the keybroad will be a permanent change across all applications? If the request is only for one application. Can it be changed by changing the panel default.

:?: Thanks.

Hello,

Suggest you find the keymapping tool for your emulator and look at how the the keys are defined.

On every emulator i've used (more than 10) the newline key is "somewhere". Some mapping tries to use the original key placement (like a real 3270) as much as possible. Others to not try. Often the newline is the Enter or the right Ctrl-key. On a few systems it has neem SHift-Enter. Some, the easiest way to find the keys is to look at the keymap tool.

Mapping the keybroad will be a permanent change across all applications?
Unless the keymap is read from some network file (not usually done), individual desktops would need to be configured. If there is toi be a change to the mapping in general, new users would at least be properly configured when their systems were set up. Hopefully, there is already a newline mapped and all that will be necessary is to tell people how to use it.

IMHO - everyone using a 3270 to interface with the mainframe should use the same "standard" keymapping. . . If there are reasons to have "special" needs, fine, but the standard 40+ keys should be the same (for sanity's sake). Again, only imho.
Hope this helps,

Hello,

Often, when an error like that is raised, it has to do with permissions to write the file/directory.

Suggest you talk with your desktop or terminal emulator support people. You should be able to save a key mapping file.
Hope this helps,
