Hello and welcome to the forum,

You may have some idea of what you are asking, but we do not. . .

What is it you really want to know? What is a Time Sharing Option to you? What is a "version"?

Well, back in 1971 (I think it was) Time Sharing was an optional feature in OS/360 Release 20 (and rather expensive, too, in terms of storage), thus Time Sharing Option. Beginning in the first MVS release TSO became a standard feature, but it was still an "option," so TSO was kept.

From the point of view of the TSO user, it hasn't changed much since 1971, though the addition of 3270s in place of hard copy terminals like the 2741, and SPF made a huge difference. The line mode commands really haven't changed very much.

As a summer programmer in 1969-70 at IBM Poughkeepsie, a fellow student was in 1970 working on pre-release TSO. He'd type in his logon, then go to lunch, since it took that long to log in. Probably running on 360/50 or so.

I was doing APL - much fun!
