edit macro on VM

Does anyone know how to setup an editor macro to run on VM? I will use EPDF to get into the editor, but when I try to run my exec, it says
'TEST1' IS NOT A VALID EDIT COMMAND.

Have to wonder why ask here, not the other place?

A while since I used VM. EPDF, I don't even know what it is. If that is the editor, I can only say look in the docs. With XEDIT, I seem to remember there was a "profile"-type thing to get the session to look on the mini-disks for a macro/command that was not built-in. Otherwise, just having the macro sitting in the mini-disk chain worked fine for me :-)

If you could explain a little bit more....

Answer: it turns out the file type has to be ISREDIT.

Sorry if I posted in the wrong forum.

Hi Pedro,

Posting here is ok :)

Those of us who help here are the mostly the ones who help on the other forum as well ;)

Sometimes I frown when others do not do their research... I actually tried hard to find manuals, but they are not easy to find. In particular, I looked here, but no mention of ISPF editor macros: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/zvm/v5r4/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.zvm.v54/zvminfoc03.htm

I finally found this link to older manuals:

I thought the reference was to a VM-focused forum, or possibly to the ISPF list.

Hi Pedro,

I believe the reference to the "other place" was our "expert" forum rather than this student/fresher forum ;)

Thanks for the links. While we don't have many, we do have some VM users.

I just would like the search to allow things like VM and DB2 as search arguments . . .

Probably, i need to ask the admin.

I believe my original question qualifies as a beginner question. :-)

I agree.

My reply was "thinking out loud" about the earlier post.

Yes, sorry Pedro, I just wondered why not on ibmmainframes...

I assume there will be a "minidisk" with assorted stuff on for ISPF. Maybe worth having a look around on that. You'd maybe have go to the ISREDIT earlier, I don't know.

Hello,

It has been many, many years since i had a VM id, but i seem to recall that folks that i worked with ran REXX in Xedit. . . Long before REXX came to the "real" world ;)

I never learned a lot about Xedit as my logons were to front-end some guest systems and i did editing on the guest primarily. ROSCOE/TSO for mvs - z/OS and VOLLIE/ICCF(?) for DOS/VSE.
