How to avoid B37 SRCHDSL.LIST

Postby batsaali » Thu Feb 16, 2017 10:52 pm

Hello,

I have hit a limit where I can not use SRCHFOR commsnd to search for a specific string through a big list of datasets in the 3.4 DSLIST pannel.
I am hitting a B37 on the SRCHDSL.LIST dataset.
I have tried the ISPCCONF but without success. There are some allocation defaults there but not for the SRCHDSL.LIST.
I also tried using a batch with the superc but that is not that flexible as the 3.4 pannel because I need to code all the dataset names every time in the batch instead of specifying a ds prefix.

Anyone here knows how to increase the default allocation parameters for <userid>.SRCHDSL.LIST dataset?

Thanks in advance!

Try manually allocating the data set beforehand.

I tried allocating a tiny SRCHDSL.LIST and got the B37. Then I allocated a much larger one and did not get B37, so I think it should work for you as well.

Hello Pedro,

I have tried that, but the dataset gets recreated every time I type the srchfor command and it has the same small allocation which i could not find where to change.

What did you do exactly that worked for you?

Thanks in advance!

1. I pre-allocated with 1 block primary and 0 secondary extents.

2. Then I ran SRCHFOR command from panel DSLIST

3. It ends with message:
ISRS050 Listing data set or volume is full. Delete and preallocate larger using
option 3.2 or delete and increase default space parms using option 3.13.A.D

Which pretty much says it all. (I was not aware of 3.13.A.D before)

To resolve, I pre-allocated with 20 cylinders primary and 10 secondary (your needs might be different). But it is deleted after the next use and reallocated with small size on subsequent use, so change the default as suggested by the message.
