Please give me your opinion on this,
Why DB2 uses KSDS VSAM file type for tablespace creation?
I am writing a graduate paper on this topic. I want to know your experienced thought so that I can add some practical reasoning.
Thank you everybody for your time in advance.

Well, you could research the DB2 manuals on the IBM website. Google will get you there.

Sorry for the typo, I meant to say LDS instead of KSDS. Why we use Linear file type for tablebase creation?

Thanks NicC for the suggestion. Yes, definitely I could. The reason I am doing this if I can find any new and interesting things people realized through their experience. This will help me to get better understanding of subject matter.

Hello,

Why we use Linear file type for tablebase creation?
Because this is what IBM chose for implementation. . .

Why are you asking this on a public forum? Would it not make more sense to do the research in the IBM System Journal since that's where IBM tends to write articles including design details? Even if an IBM system architect were monitoring this forum, that person is not likely to provide any details -- and nobody outside IBM can do more than guess about the design decisions.

there a big issue with IBM system Journal and IBM journal of research and development
they are not free any longer...

once upon a time they were free and available to everybody

after that for a very short period the were available and the price was around 3$ for each article
( the preface was free )

now some IBM idiot decided to handle the whole stuff to IEEE and the net result of the operation
is that each article costs 30$ ( even the useless preface )
Somebody in IBM seems just interested to sponsor ( with our money ) IEEE
or is trying to make access to IBM culture very difficult
for an occasional need 30$ is really a waste of money!
