VSAM KSDS 'OPEN': Sequence of Events

Postby Aki88 » Tue Jan 20, 2015 12:23 am

Hello,

Am unclear about the sequence of events that occur when a KSDS open/close request is made; say, an IDCAMS REPRO to copy nothing is executed, REPRO INDD has some data, OUTDD is an empty KSDS and COUNT(0) has been coded; this way nothing will get copied to my KSDS, yet an OPEN/CLOSE request will be made on the KSDS; I agree that this can be done by INDD DD DUMMY as well, but this is to serve as an example only.

Query here is to understand what all changes occurred in the KSDS control information, when the first request for access, and subsequently OPEN the KSDS was made.

Any details or links to the manual which has this info documented would be of great help.

Thank you.
