Hi Team,
We have a dataset which HSM trying to take dataset backup and failed with 'dataset in use'. But we have specified AUTO BACKUP=NO in both Management Class and Storage GROUP attribute. But, why it is still trying and failing with ARC1319I with Reason Code:08. Anyone in the group can help us ?
Kind regards,
Anthony

Re: ARC1319I with REASCODE:08
The ARC1319I message indicates an enqueuing issue -- that is, your backup job wants exclusive access to the data set and another job (or CICS region or started task) already has the data set allocated. I'm not sure why you think this problem would be related to the Auto Backup setting, but there will be little (if any) correlation between the two. The manual DFSMS Implementing System-Managed Storage has this to say about the Auto Backup setting for Management Class:
And how does this relate to whether or not a data set can be enqueued for backup?Y for Auto Backup to ensure that the data set is retained on both DFSMShsmbackup volumes and migration level 2

Hi Bob,
Thanks a lot. But, my question is, Why HSM attempted to take dataset level backup even I have specified 'AUTO BACKUP=NO' on both SG and MC setting ?
Kind regards,
Anthony

This is something to discuss with your site support group. We have no access to your site's SMS rules and HSM policies, so we have no way to provide you an answer.

Re: ARC1319I with REASCODE:08
Hi Bob,
Thanks. Please correct me if I am wrong. In general, HSM takes dataset level backup only if we enable 'AUTO BACKUP=YES' at SG first and after control goes to MC's BACKUP Attribute and AUTO BACKUP's options right ?
Kind regards,
Anthony

Re: ARC1319I with REASCODE:08
I will reiterate: CONTACT YOUR SITE SUPPORT GROUP. There are many different backup parameters for DFSMSHSM, at both the system level and data set level, and it is entirely possible that your site has set system options to override your AUTO BACKUP=N. And since we do not work at your site, we CANNOT know what the system parameters are for DFSMSHSM at your site. Only someone working at your site can possibly help you determine why the backup is being done.

Antonyraj85,
There is no 'Bob' here. Robert's name is Robert. If it was Bob that he wanted to be called by then his id would be 'Bob Sample'.
Please show respect and use the displayed names.

The problem I have is that people can explain things quickly but I can only comprehend slowly.
