Are you aware that EMC has a line of storage devices for mainframes?

As far as I know, there is no such thing as mainframe storage certification -- you might get EMC certified, you might look to see if IBM has DS8000 certification, but you're not likely to find certification for mainframe storage since (a) storage solutions vary by company, and (b) there's a number of companies making such storage and each works somewhat differently.

And mainframe storage was what that topic was about - EMC just happened to be mentioned in one of the replies; it was not mentioned in the original topic.

Hello,

Which would be usful for me DS8000 or EMC?.
This is not what you want to hear but - Until you have considerable experience with the discipline, you should not even consider certification.

Certification without qualification is surely to be avoided. . . It is a bad thing for all concerned. I have been at several places who terminated people who got thru interviews that required applicants be certified but they could not actually do the work.

You would need to check with EMC on what certifications they offer -- I'm not certified in any storage product since I don't specialize in storage.

If your site is using DS8000 storage and you get certified in EMC, your company will basically see your certification as worthless -- and the reverse is also true. Unless you know what kind of storage your site is using, talking about getting certified for your current company is not helpful.

Hello,

Possibly certification means something different in your company, but in the companies i've supported, becoming certified means the person is already an expert. . .

Even if the new opportunity is in the same company, i would think that certification should indicate a high level of experience and understanding of the discipline rather than one who is beginning training for same.

Maybe certification has a different meaning for that company or there is something basic i misunderstand. . . :?
