Hi,

I am getting this error:

IDC3009I ** VSAM CATALOG RETURN CODE IS 50 - REASON CODE IS IGG0CLE5-6

when I tried to do a listcat on a dataset.

Later I found out that the Volume this guy shows in 3.4 through does not have a VVDS on it. But this guy is a VSAM file.

Through 3.4 search of the volume this volume does not show this guy.

I am not sure on what to run diagnose on?

What should be the next step I should be doing.

P.s. I am a Storage guy.

What does the error message say - look it up and you will probably get more information. I would guess from what you said (without researching) that you have a data set that does not exist but a catalog entry still does.

The person who was the primary for this restored the file back from tape.

Hello,

Suggest you post the jcl and informational messages generated by the restore. . .

If they no longer exist, re-run the restore and then post the requested info.

Has any of these backups ever been succesfully restored?

Then you need to look at that restore job to see if it ran correctly, maybe the restore job got an error message.

This was at the DR site which is now closed. However heard from someone just heard that the restores were done from incrementals and so VVDS did not get restored which could have caused the issue.

Hello,

It is very bad business to have a Disaster Recovery process in place that has not been thoroughly tested. . .

All of the backups & restores should be tested locally before ever trying at some remote site (unless there is a 24x7 hot site that can be used at a moments notice for testing).

From what you have posted, the entire data resource for the organization may not be safe. . .

We had a meeting yesterday regarding this and it was found it was all because the mod 3 was having a VTOC size of a 3390-1 and also that the restorations were done either incrementally/logically and not from DUMP FULL which would have put VVDS on the volume and things would have gone fine.
