To find Sortcard

Postby anu » Thu Nov 18, 2010 7:26 pm

Can anyone help me to find the sort card for the below concept?

A Mainframe File which has been created earlier should be compared with the current date and if the difference between the Current date & Creation date is greater than 90 days, then the file should be renamed as well as renamed file's expiration date should be incremented by 30 days. Is it possible to get it using Sort card?

Regards,
Anu.

kind of complicated to do it with sort ASIS
You would need to

list the catalog
process the listing to determine the dataset[s] to be processed
create the control statements for the rename and alter the expiration date
run the resulting job
==> a multi step multi job solution

most probably the SORT control card are the lesser of Your problems

certainly a scripted approach using rexx would make the process more manageable
and a single step one
cheers

When I tell somebody to RTFM or STFW I usually have the page open in another tab/window of my browser,
so that I am sure that the information requested can be reached with a very small effort

You can't alter the expiration date for a disk data set anyway.

Hello and welcome to the forum,

Is it possible to get it using Sort card?
No.

If you intend to pursue this suggest you consider copying the file to the new name with the needed expiration date.

Why even do this? You might talk with your storage management people and ask about defining how this dataset can be managed without this manipulation.
Hope this helps,

What sort of suggestion or feedback is this?
The problem I have is that people can explain things quickly but I can only comprehend slowly.
