Hi,
I have the following control information.

Sort fields=(4,13,CH,A)
OUTFIL FNAMES=SORTOUT
INCLUDE COND=(1,3,CH,EQ,C'102')

This sort card didnt give any error. It is working fine. Wat is the difference between this and the one without outfil statement? Both does the same thing ryt?

I havd only sortin and sortout ddnames. No other files

narasi_433,

If you do not specify a FNAMES or FILES parameter for an OUTFIL statement, the OUTFIL ddname is SORTOUT by default.

NO. Unless you require writing multiple files I wouldn't use OUTFIL.

Check these links which explain SORTOUT and OUTFIL processing in detail
