And how is this "dummy dataset" used in CA-7? Is it part of the CA-7 start up JCL? Is it one of the configuration parameters in the CA-7 configuration file? Is it part of a procedure executed by CA-7? Is it something else you haven't explained?

hi,
if you are transfering a file from one system to another and once the partner system receive the file it has to trigger a job in that system, is there any need of dummy dataset in this process?

You are not being very clear. If you are asking about CA-7 on the "partner system", then you can use a data set trigger on that system's CA-7 and there's no need for a dummy data set. If you are asking about CA-7 on the sending system, the answer would depend upon what is being used on the "partner system" to schedule jobs. Why do you think a dummy data set would be needed?

What do you mean by dummy dataset? Either it is a dataset or it isn't.
The problem I have is that people can explain things quickly but I can only comprehend slowly.
