Incoming sFTP transmission triggering CA7 job

Postby infaddict » Mon Feb 11, 2013 8:52 pm

Hi,

My mainframe system is receiving an incoming dataset via sFTP and I am wondering if it is possible for CA7 to detect the file arriving and to trigger a processing job. I know this works for other file transfer protocols such as XCOM and NDM.

Looking at the manuals, the file needs to be created and a SMF Type 15 record created. Sadly I don't know if sFTP creates such a SMF record when it writes to the dataset.

Does anybody have any experience of triggering CA7 jobs upon receipt of a dataset via sFTP?

Thanks!

sFTP would not create the SMF 15 record -- z/OS would do that. It certainly should be possible to have sFTP send a file that then triggers a CA-7 job; but that is something you could test on your site much better than asking a forum.

Hi Rob, thanks for your reply. Yes, I am going to setup a test of this on my system, but that takes some time as we have to generate and exchange keys etc. I was hoping to find out if this was technically possible at all, before investing such time in a test. It may be that someone here has already proved this works, that was all I was thinking.

I will setup a standard DSN trigger in CA7 and see if I can get it triggering via sFTP.

Actually it was Robert who replied to you. Rob, if he exists, is someone else. Please respect other peoples signatures.
The problem I have is that people can explain things quickly but I can only comprehend slowly.

Well many people have signatures and usernames that are unrelated to their real name. Sorry if I offended Robert.

Bit of advice for your "moderator"... I have never felt as unwelcome as a new user as I have in that last post. Talk about making people feel welcome. I'm a admin on several large forums including one with a six figure user base and I would never talk to a new member of the community like that. If Robert has an issue then he could have PM'd me.

When I tell somebody to RTFM or STFW I usually have the page open in another tab/window of my browser,
so that I am sure that the information requested can be reached with a very small effort

It's not as if I addressed him as Susan is it?! Rob is a shortened form of Robert.

Clearly very touchy on this forum.
