Question about SMF news on z/OS V1R9 and high

Postby hakghen » Sat May 23, 2009 8:09 pm

Hello again friends,

I'm working as an System z Intern (and Field Tech Sales Support Assistant) on IBM Brazil and this monday I'll have to do a presentation about the changes on SMF on z/OS V1R9 and higher (the capability of writing system and job related records in SYSLOG logs streams, instead of SYS1.MANx datasets.)

Everything is OK, but theres one point a didn't found info anywhere. I'll have to edit the SMFPRMxx PARMLIB member for there changes to have effect too (define log streams and etc). But on the SYS EXITS and SUBSYS, I have to changes one program (IEFU29 for MANx) to IEFU29L for log streams.

I'm sure somebody will ask about it but I didn't found any info regarding this IEFU29L program, any of you have an idea of what it does or why I have to define it?

Thanks in advance!
[]'s,

Hello,

I believe you have answered your question. If log streams are to be used, IEFU29L must be specified as this is the module that writes log streams. If IEFU29 is specified, this implies MANx. It appears IBM added a new module rather than adding the new functionality to the original IEFU29 module.
Hope this helps,
d.sch.
