Reading 3490E tapes on 3590 H1A drives

Postby galloblue » Wed Nov 20, 2013 10:24 pm

We are purchasing a new MainFrame, and with it, FICON instead of ESCON. We can fit our current 3494 with the following

1 3590-A60 IBM Enterprise Tape Controller
1 2710 Remote Support Facility
2 3435 2GB FICON SW Adapter Card
4 3590-H1A IBM Enterprise Tape Drive

The Question is will we be able to READ our 3490E Tapes in 3490 emulator mode?

Thanks

If I say Yes, how do you hold me to it? So ask your hardware supplier.

Well, the short answer is if you say 'Yes', then I'll assume you have witnessed it and it's possible. I've read some places that say it is, some say it isn't.

So here we are..................

Anyone else with a more definitive answer?

Yes...your hardware supplier - and you can sue them if they are wrong!
The problem I have is that people can explain things quickly but I can only comprehend slowly.
