Does your site use a terminal session manager? Is this error from it? If not, is the person attempting to log into TSO, CICS, ROSCOE, or some other subsystem?

You first need to identify where the message is coming from (which product or subsystem), and then read up on the message in the manual to determine how to fix the cause of the problem.

not a security related issue !

possible causes...
(1) gross mismatch between the 3270emulator setup and VTAM definitions
(2) procedural error... hitting the wrong key on the keyboard at the wrong time
aka known as PEBCAK :D

not much problem determination can be done from a forum

for ...
(1) network support
(2) somebody without fat fingers sitting at the workstation doing things the way they should
watching and telling the end user what he/she did wrong
cheers

When I tell somebody to RTFM or STFW I usually have the page open in another tab/window of my browser,
so that I am sure that the information requested can be reached with a very small effort

Robert ,

Answer for your question :

Does your site use a terminal session manager?
No

Is the person attempting to log into TSO, CICS, ROSCOE, or some other subsystem?

The person tried logging to TSO. After that he was not able to proceed further.

Now the issue has been resolved - We were not sure whether the method adopted was right or not - we just deleted the user userid.ISPROF.

even if You solved the issue, really it is difficult to see how data in the ISPF profile could cause that error
it would have been wiser to keep the old profile to investigate further!
