lrecl and blocksize are inconsistent

Postby nn_az » Fri Oct 28, 2011 6:56 am

hi Experts,

i have given the below specification for a dataset.

Record format . . . : VBS
Record length . . . : 32767
Block size . . . . : 27998
1st extent tracks . : 10
Secondary tracks . : 10

the problem here is the lrecl and blocksize are inconsistent for recfm=v
can anyone suggest some correct value.the relation between them?

No, the problem here is that YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT VARIABLE,BLOCKED,SPANNED MEANS. The LRECL and BLKSIZE are perfectly valid for a VBS data set. They are not valid for a RECFM=V or RECFM=VB data set, but they are fine for a RECFM=VBS data set. Nobody can suggest "correct values" for them since they already have the correct values.

Hi Robert,
thanks for the reply.

when i tried to browse this ds, it shown INVALID RECORD FORMAT.
Then i pressed F1.i got the message---LRECL and block size are inconsistent for RECFM=V data set---

Please advice.

ISPF does not support VBS. Your only real option, unless someone more clever than me can propose something else, is to copy the dataset to a RECFM VB dataset and browse the copied dataset.

Hello,

What creates this file? Why is vbs used?

And no, vbs is NOT the requirement. VBS is being used to meet some requirement. . .
Hope this helps,
d.sch.
