Hi Everyone,
It’s been 2 years working in the mainframe world.
My role is Mainframe Production Control Analyst
1. Batch Monitoring
2. Incident Management
3. L1 support activities like raising an incident and following up with L2/L3 team for resolution.
4. Fixing abends like SE37, USER ABENDS which is usually parameter mismatch and Contention issues and JCL overrides.
5. My first project the client will provide an input file which we will update in production dataset and trigger a batch and monitor them and inform clients about its success
6. My second project was just monitoring some applications periodically and logs them.
I have hands on experience in scheduling tools like CA ESP, Control-M and CA7
Now I like to know from you seniors what other areas I must concentrate.

Re: Whats Next
Depends where you want to go which is something that you have not mentioned.
The problem I have is that people can explain things quickly but I can only comprehend slowly.

Re: Whats Next
Maybe try to get involved with data transfers, like between your shop and other sites?
Maybe work with jobs that run on mid-range or web-based systems?
Maybe a good transition would be network monitoring, like watching over web servers, IMS Connect, and MQ Series jobs.
These would all get you into the "next generation" stuff where the mainframe is being used like a giant server and/or datastore.
