What kind of job is Mainframe?

Hello everyone,
I am planning to join a mainframe course,i need some guidance .I already know core java and j2ee-servlets but i didn't get a job till now(almost 1 yr ),that's why making this decision with a hope of getting a job in mainframe after one of my pal told .Kindly tell me ,
1.)future scope in india.
2.)is it similar to programming jobs?
3.)will it add value my java skills in my resume.?

Suggest you spend some time reading topics throughout this forum. You appear to have no familiarity with the mainframe envieonment.

Once you have learned somethng about things done on the mainframe, you may be better able to ask for what additional you want to know. Many jobs on the mainframe involve programming of one type or another.
