Hi

I need to know the different roles and sub-roles in mainframe world.

All I know of few roles in Mainframe are:
1. System Programmer
2. System Administrator
3. System Operator
4. Production Control Analyst
5. Application Developer

I need to know the different sub-roles within these roles like what all different System Administrators are there, what all different System Programmers are there, so that I can choose my career and grow in right direction. Your assistance would be highly appreciated.

All depends on the organisation - some might have only 2 sysprogs some might have an army. And there are many categories that you have not mentioned e. testing, security, network and soem of these may be rolloedup into other titles eg testers may also be programmers. So you question is more like "How long is a piece of string?".

Hi NicC

I need to know of all the roles and sub-roles in Mainframe world, not depending on the organization. As you explained that few sub-roles which I haven't mentioned is reason behind they wud be coming under different roles which I posted in my initial post.

1. System Programmer
2. System Administrator
3. System Operator
4. Production Control Analyst
5. Application Developer

Like testing you said wud be coming under Application, Security wud be coming under Administration, network wud come under Administration...

So, I need different roles and further sub-roles where a fresher to Mainframe world can move into...

Appreciate your response.
