please how to answer thisquestion

There is no generic "how to answer".

The interviewer wants to know why YOU chose mainframes. . .

Tell them. Hopefully, you did have a reason. . .

Because 35 years ago when I entered the IT field, there were minicomputers but they were mostly used to feed data to mainframes. There were no microcomputers except hand-built hobby machines. If you weren't working on mainframes, you pretty much weren't working in IT.

Huh! When I started there weren't any to machines just m/f and system3/38 probably others but I did not know about them.

for 'to machines' read 'toy machines' i.e. micro-computers now known as PCs.
Now, where is that 'preview' button?!

If the "38" was in operation when you started, there were many other computer vendors still in business. At that time (in addition to the wide variety of mini-computers) there were still several different flavors of "mainframe" including Burroughs, RCA, Honeywell, CDC, NCR, Univac, and some others.

Which reminds me - ICL (now Fujitsu) and the George 3 OS
