Hi everybody,

I've 3 trs of Exp in Cobol,db2,JCL but I've been asked to move into a new project which involves REXX . Can anybody advise if I can take up the new Project or look for alternatives.

learning REXX will certainly give You a different perspective of <data> processing
since I suppose it will also deal with ISPF dialog development
the combination is certainly a good add on for Your skill portfolio

I would be happy to jump on it, but ....
as usual these opinions and judgement are strictly personal

for example I find a REXX skill useful also for the <standard> programmer
it is the quickest tool that You could find for easy prototyping

look at some tools developed in rexx ...
for example XMITIP and TXT2PDF
try to redo them in COBOL

as I said a completely different perspective

Adding REXX to your skill-set could be quite valuable.

One thing to consider is that most REXX is more technical/generic while most COBOL is implementing business rules that are very specific, Do you know what you want to do for your career yet? A couple of thoughts are being a technical support person or an application developer. Also, while there are some jobs that require REXX, there are many more that require COBOL.

Are you working in an organization where you plan on making a career?

As you now have 3 years "grounding" experience, i'd suggest learning any additional technologies the organization is willing to provide.
