Driver Program and non-driver program

Postby kumar009 » Wed Apr 23, 2014 10:16 pm

What is a driver program ?
I can say that it is a main program that calls 1 or more sub programs (in batch)
or menu program that calls other programs based on user input (or event)

Can you please put in a better way adding more points to this question ?

"driver program" doen't have an official meaning that I know if. Used in the ways you've described, people will understand, probably, but there is no genuine content to it. If someone says this is the driver program, and it is not obvious what that means in the context, just ask them what they mean. Save misunderstandings.

Hello,

With this request and several others made today, just what are you looking for?

If these are interview questions, you need to post what you told the interviewer and we will clarify if it is needed.

Please review this and the other topics you have posted and tell us what you are shooting for . . .
Hope this helps,
d.sch.

Hi Dick,
I'm new to mainframes and going thru the reference materials and manuals for past couple of days / weeks. What ever I'm postinng here are not the questions faced in the interview room. they are all the question raised / asked to myself when understanding any concept. I came across the online platform and feel it would be the suitable place to improve my knowledge and started posting my questions.

If you still insists me to post the questions in Interview Questions categories. I will bind and happy to do the same.

If you are at work then these are the sort of questions that would best be answered by asking your colleagues as they can give answers as related to your particular workplace. You are a 'newbie' so you will not be expected to know everything and you would be expected to ask around your work-place.
The problem I have is that people can explain things quickly but I can only comprehend slowly.
Regards
Nic

As others have noted, there is no formal meaning to the term in System/360 type mainframes, unlike the situation with toy machines where the concept has a more accepted meaning.

In How do I coding assembly code for hex data calculate. at our sister site, there are two sample programs. The second program is used to exercise the first program, and many people would regard it as a "driver" program.
