SAP is Replacing Mainframes

My friends saying that In few months SAP is replacing Mainframes . Is it True ?

SAP generally sells software. Mainframes are hardware. Without hardware, what will the software run on? SAP also runs on mainframes, you know. Furthermore, IBM brought out a brand new line of mainframes just last year, just as they do every 2 to 3 years.

Furthermore, IBM is selling more processing power in mainframes each year than the year before. The absolute number of machines may not be going up, but companies keep buying more power for their existing implementations. IBM has also committed millions of dollars to academic initiatives for the z architecture.

While no one can predict the future, IBM certainly seems to be continuing to push mainframe systems, and they get a lot of revenue from mainframes. The death of the mainframe has been predicted, almost continuously, for many many years now. In the 70's and 80's, the minicomputer was going to kill it. Then the PC was going to kill it. ....
