No. of OUTFIL data sets from SMF

Hello,

Is there any way to know the number of OUTFIL data sets created by a sort execution from looking at the SMF record (type 208) generated?

Hello and welcome to the forum,

Suggest you post a link to the type 208 smf record you mention. I find no reference to this. . .

I suspect that if there is an OUTFIL dd statement, there would be 1 data set created. . .

Thanks, Dick.

Type 208 SMF records are Syncsort records generated by the "SMF Facility"; I can not post a link but I can refer you to the Installation Guide, chapter 5, "The SMF option".

The idea behind the OUTFIL statement is to generate multiple output data sets (up to 100?) from a single read of the input data.

So, the question remains, is it possible to deduce the count of the OUTFIL (SORTOF??) data set created by a sort execution from the SMF generated by Syncsort.

Thanks very much,
Yifat

Hello,

Looks like that beyond the manual you need to look at the SMFDSECT in the Syncsort MACLIB on your system.

Hi, Dick, thanks again.

I've been studying the Syncsort's SMFDSECT for quite some time now and couldn't find a count of the OUTFIL data sets generated (as opposed to DFSORT's SMF records which are quite clear on that :) ).

I've been looking for help from Syncsort's support as to a possible way to deduce the count or a field that I had missed or did not understand correctly.

Best Regards,
Yifat Oren

Hello,

How have you "been looking"?

If you open an issue/question with Syncsort support, you will get the answer.

At this time, the SyncSort SMF record does not contain a field with the number of OUTFILs created in the sort step.
