What are alternatives IDEs for (IBM) Rational Developer for

Am very tired of RDZ and the lack of any usability whatsoever. What I would really like is just a plain ol' text editor like VIM - but could communicate to a mainframe.

Can you elaborate that? Freeware? Is it the Webshpere application?

Now I understand. I already have FTP access - but the real issue is that files are placed in Endevaor repository.
