Data exceeded the layout : How to find

Hi,

Let's say we have a cluster which has a record length of 2000.

My requirement is to find out the records from cluster which exceeded the layout (means record length greater than 2000).

Usually I copy into flat file (with 2500 record length) and compare using Fileaid option 10.

Is there any other way to find out ?

Why/how are records longer than 2000 being written into the file?
