  1. Henceforth, please post your questions in the appropriate forum. In this case, the appropriate forum is "JCL", not "FAQ".
  2. Read about the PRTY parameter.
  3. Note that you may not, in fact, be able to use the PRTY parameter, as few data centers permit it to inexperienced people.

I don't think it's simple any more. I think you used to be able to put a higher priority in the job card, and it would not only jump ahead in the waiting queue for jobs, but also would get more time slices while running.

These days, the priority still seems to change when a job gets selected to run, but it doesn't make it go any faster once it starts. There are system managed classes that go with Workload Manager (WLM) that keep all of that stuff tuned up.

Changing Priority

Postby dick scherrer » Fri Nov 04, 2011 11:34 pm

Hello,

Your topic has been relocated and given a new subject according to your question. The subject JCL is useless. . .

Why do you beieve your job should have priority over any other?

If you believe your job(s) are more important than others, you need to have your management direct this. They may believe yours is more important and they may believe that yours are just like jobs submitted by everyone else.
Hope this helps,
d.sch.

The trouble is "priority" in z/OS has several meanings, and it is essentially meaningless is some contexts. The

I wrote a long post that got messed up that discussed this in more detail. I'm not going to retype it.

  1. Learn to speak English; it is the international language of IT.
  2. The previous discussion indicates that you can't do this by slapping a parameter on a JOB card (and if you could, everyone would do it and it would be worthless). Talk to your shop's performance management workgroup about how you can do this and whether you'll be fired for trying.

hi sir plz let me knw dis

several things wrong here
1 - please use standard english and not SMS english - you have a proper keyboard so use it properly
2 - let you know what?
3 - Do not tailgate old topics - start a new one and use a reference to the old one
The problem I have is that people can explain things quickly but I can only comprehend slowly.
Regards
Nic
