Use or Nor use PDSE

Postby samb01 » Tue Mar 30, 2010 2:10 pm

Hi,

i have a librairy whiche is currently updated. So i often compress it.

I want to chnage this library to PDSE. But i dont know if there is a risk...

This library is updated by a STC really often. As soon as o job is submetted by TWS, the STC take the job (which is in SDSF) and move it to the library.

Is there any risk about the time answer...

Thanks for you help.

Hello,

Probably no significant performance difference.

If lots of updates/adds/deletes occur, it may help to periodically reorg the datasaet.
Hope this helps,

Ok, so i don't see why i would choose a PDSE instead of a PDS because, i compress the PDS.

If i have to reorg a PDSE, i have the same problem...

No, a PDSE does not need compression. However, please research the known problems of using PDSE before making any changes. Sharing a PDSE across multiple LPARs is not usually a good idea.

While a compress/reorg is not necessary, there may be a bit of a performance hit if the file becomes completely fragmented. . .
Hope this helps,
