Hello,

Suggest you speak with your storage management people. They will know full folume dumps are to be done.

You need to use whatever is the accepted method on that system and not introduce something new.

You've forgotten, Dick; Hadi-kun is the lead sysprog, or at least was back in January.

Hello,

It should be harmless to run a volume dump. his does Not mean there is a useful backup until it has been successfully restored and used.

Several times i have been asked to help when a "backup" was made and it had problems when the restore was tried.

I tell everyone that until a backup is reloaded and verified, all that exists is some media with questionable content.

Suggest you build a test volume with the same kinds of datasets you will have on a "real" volume, dump it, restore, and verify that the data is intact.
