FTP - Can't Open Data Connection

Dear Experts,

We have a application development user who is able to get into FTP server via DOS, but when the user tries to transfer(Mput) any file from workstation to Mainframe then it ends up with an error "Can't Open Data Connection". We have checked the user OMVS segment and it is defined. When I do "TSO NETSTAT" I could see the connection is established against FTPD1 and in the syslog I could not see any error message related to this issue. Even when user tries to perform FTP using Emulator then it closes immediately after the Send or Receive tab is pressed.

Could someone please shed some light on the above issue.

Hi All,

Just figured out that the PC was running with firewall which in turn blocked the Data Transfer. So the Firewall Option was disable from PC during Transfer.

Thanks all

Dear Enrico,

I was misled away by the below sentence :

TSO & ISPF
TSO Programming, ISPF, SDF, SDSF and PDF, FTP, TCP/IP Concepts, SNA & SNA/IP etc...

The data connection needs a second port open, so your firewall is preventing that connection. Here is a good article that tries to explain it:
http://www.allaboutjake.com/network/linksys/ftp/

On the down side, the article doesn't really tell you how to FIX the problem.
