Cannot delete a (VSAM)-File from SMS-managed volume

Hello.

If I ask the catalog there are no entries. If I look on the volume I can see the rest from a VSAM-dataset: data and index.
And the last I can not delete. I tried with IDCAMS, online and IEFBR14. The messages are different but the result is always
the same: The datasets are on the volume.

IEFBR14: failed, Dataset not found.
online and IDCAMS: no catalog entry.

May be anyone knows other possibilities to erase these files.

Thank You for Your help.

PeterV

Consult your site support group. If you truly have VSAM data on a disk pack without a catalog entry, they can use an IDCAMS DELETE VVR to remove the data (and index) components from the disk. This is not something that an application person should be doing, however. And the question arises how the situation came about, of course?

could it be that the vsam <thing> was defined in a user catalog
and the alias has disappeared ???

Hi,
Like Robert told, I used 'IDCAMS DELETE VVR'. The problem was my mistake, because I didn't delete the cluster.

Thank You.

Hi. I ran into that problem too. And after days of searching I finally found
this software: Long Path File Tool.

It's GREAT. You can find it here: http://www.longpathtool.com
