A query in IMS DC testing!!!

Postby marun » Sat Jul 11, 2009 2:32 pm

HI all,

I have a query regarding IMS DC testing.

Generally while testing a batch program, we create/define a new VSAM (IMS databases) and give it in the job.

For testing online screens through Xpeditor, is there a way through which we can give such user created databases? Kindly correct me if this query sounds Noob.

In my work area, many people are facing problems because of this dependency. If they are able to use an user created database for testing online screens through Xpeditor, that would be great. :ugeek:

Hello,

Have you talked with your ims dba?
Hope this helps,

Hi Dick,

I didn't have a chance to speak to my DBA. Will try to do the same.

I just wanted to know if there are any other possible ways to do that.

Is it possible to do that by doing some changes in Xpediter setup???

Hello,

If this work is done single-thread does it work as needed? You may need to define some scheduling limitation to do what you want.

I am not fluent with IMS and hesitate to say "try this" or "try that". I will try to get a note to someone with a lot of ims experience and see if that helps.

I'd suggest you also speak with your dba.
Hope this helps,

It is difficult to determine what exactly you want? When you test your batch programs are you running DLI (databases hard coded in the JCL) or are you running BMP (databases NOT defined in the JCL). BMP means that you can run both online and batch (JCL driven jobs) concurrently.

If you are running in a test environment, you will use the same databases that you would be using for your batch jobs. For online, you would need to have your test PSB defined in the test region and your TRANSACTION gen'd with an ACB gen.

Xpediter would also need to be operational in that TEST region.

Dick is correct - you need to speak with your DBA.

Ditto, you need to talk to your DBA. All data bases accessed on line must be known to the IMS system. Simply adding them to the dbdlib won't help. For temporary help, many DBAs keep a couple of data bases pre-defined for test situations...
