If I've asked this before, please forgive!

Recently, the only programmer in our shop that had any clue about developing letters and forms (and populating variable fields in the same "documents") retired, leaving yours truly with a HUGE knowledge gap in how to work with these things. We have no clue whatsoever about anything to do with this technology.

We don't want you solving our problems for us, but can someone direct me to some simple documentation and training material so we can pick up the pieces?

By the way, I just found out that one of our developers knows this stuff, but doesn't want to teach anyone. She prefers to have me tell her what I want changed and then let her do it.
