Activity / Trace Logs in Mainframe

Postby anoop76_99 » Fri Nov 11, 2011 11:08 pm

Hi,
I did not find any suitable forum other than this.

I am looking for an Activity / Trace logs in Mainframe. For ex. connections made and communications (transactions) done with CICS, Database, MQ or other outside world during execution of the jobs.

I can get these details separately but not in one log (That's what i am aware of, pls correct me if wrong).

Please let me know if my question is not clear.

Thanks
Anoop

Hello,

What you want does not exist as a report anywhere in a standard IBM mainframe.

The closest you will probably find is the actual SMF data - which is not trivial to process unless your organization has tools to do this.
Hope this helps,

Thanks Dick. Let me see if i can get something from SMF.

Just to make sure i am not making duplicate posts, Are ibmmainframes.com and ibmmainframeforum.com same? If same then why do we have two different links, can't that be merged to about confusion? I used to think both are different so I used to post separately till you locked my post on the other link. :-)
Sorry for writing non-technical stuff here.

Hello,

The 2 forums are not the same. This forum (ibmmainframeforum) was started for students and other beginners. The other forum (ibmmainframes) is supposed to be for experienced people (indeed, it is called the Expert forum).

Unfortunately, many people who know less than a beginner and make up false "expert" credentials clutter that forum with really questionable topics. :(

The good news for people posting here is that mostly the same "seniors" reply to questions here as reply to the ibmmainframes questions.

Sorry for writing non-technical stuff here.
Not to worry - not a problem :)
