1. SAP runs on mainframes, too, you know.
2. SAP is software -- it is not hardware. SAP must run on some hardware somewhere.
3. Comparing SAP to a mainframe is like comparing Windows to a duck egg. Sure, you can do the comparison, but it doesn't really tell you anything.

Many companies don't use SAP for their core systems.
It would be very interesting to read case studies of banks migrating their core to SAP or any other solution.
But yes, SAP has a big market, and someone that becomes an expert in SAP HANA will probably have lots of opportunities.

I don't see any openings for Mainframe. now most of the projects are migrating to other technologies.

I worked on Bank of America project when i was in TCS, when i left TCS BoA had started migration process to open sources, now by end of this year major part would be moved to open source. I'm currently in other company (dnt want disclose company name), I work for one of the Americas largest insurance company. Now this project is moving to Facets.

So it seems most of the big projects also migrating to other technologies.. No wonder if there are no openings in Mainframe down 6 to 8 years.

It is very sad.. I have learn a lot in Mainframe Development and everything would of no use in future.. it is very sad..
I have to switch to other technology.. no options are left.
currently I have close to 3 years of exp. in Mainframe Development (COBOL,Assembler and DB2 basics). Either I have to adept in DB2 to switch the company or to cont. my career.

I need some suggestions on my career whether to continue on mainframe or get into some other tech.

Employability is the key. If you already know mainframe stuff, this is good. Learning new things is always good and will increase your chances to get the job you want.

Wow...just wrote a horrible response, then read it back to myself and erased it.

No more posting on Monday mornings when I'm feeling bad!
