what is difference VTOC and Catalog? they are both hold data set information, it's corrct, thanks.

Hello,

When you have a question, you should start a new topic for your new question rather than post the question as a reply to some existing topic.

The catalog stores infomation about where datasets are stored (across many device types and volumes). The vtoc (volume table of contents) stores informaton about files on a particulat dasd volume.

They are completely different technologies.
