What does this command do?

I need to replace this syncsort command with a Unix sort command:

syncsort << endofsort
/INFILE ${inputFile}_dataOnly 4500
/OUTFILE ${inputFile}_dataOnly_sync
/END
endofsort

I do not understand what the 4500 means. What is that?
Also, is syncsort sorting based on the first data field? How does syncsort determine the delimiter? Does syncsort assume the first parameter is numeric?

I need help :(

Thanks In Advance,

Hello and welcome to the forums,

What "sort information" is produced when this is run? If you post the messages produced by the execution of this, i may be able to figure out or recall something. It has been more than 10 years since i used Syncsort on unix.

Speaking of which - for a faster reply, i'd suggest talking or e-mailing Syncsort support.

This is a mainframe forum and we don't have so many unix resources.

We would like to assist you with using and/or understanding the syntax, but will need you to contact us directly as we cannot post this proprietary and confidential information to the forum.

Thank you.
