Counting datasets records

Postby private_user » Sun Apr 03, 2011 2:45 pm

Hello everyone,

is there an option available on IBM Mainframes to do the following.

1. Counting 10 a 20 datasets how many records there are and the creation date of the dataset
2. Put them to a screen
3. Write them away in a job output so that using Control-D everyone can check the recordcount.
4. E-mail the record count to 3 people (SMTP).

Step 1 an 2 are succesfully build, only the last two points (3 and 4) we can't find out how to build this in the JCL.

Yours Sincerely,
Johan.

You need to talk to your site support group to find out if SMTP is running at your site (it is not a required piece of TCP/IP). If it is not running, your requirement #4 cannot be met -- period. If it is running, your site support group can tell you the write class and the started task name -- both of which you need to know to send email via SMTP. Googling RFC 2822 will give you the necessary details on how to create an SMTP email. The one piece that seems to get everybody, though, is that the email text must end with a line that has nothing but a period on it. Leave this line out and SMTP will not send the email.
