Steve, I think our experiences are simply different. I spent 35 years in the mainframe world before retiring, taking a few years off and then recently returning to work to try to have some more fun at what I like to do. I retired from one of the largest multinational financial services companies on earth where PDSE were the norm and often required. We went to PDSE many years ago largely due to its superior performance in our large scale mainframe environments. I have absolutely no problem with you or anyone else continuing to use PDS if that is what you and your management think is best. Please.

I actually logged on to this "Student and Beginners" forum by mistake and meant to log on to a different forum. Sorry about that.

Hello,

You're certainly welcome here - we can use some more of us "old guys" ;)

To me, this topic is one of those that don't have a single right or wrong answer. Methinks that however these datasets are defined/managed is less important than that they Are managed/supported properly.

I've been a migrant data worker since the late 70's and have seen both used successfully - even on the same system.

When working in a new environment, i go with whatever the local standards (unless there is something horrid that i might contribute to making better<g>).
Hope this helps,
d.sch.
