damaged ML tape

Postby casper » Mon Jul 12, 2010 8:29 pm

Hi,

i have a damaged physical tape which i cannot read from - IBM have supplied me with the list of logical tapes on that tape. We have PPRC enabled on two libraries so a copy of this exists at our DR site.

I have used copycat utility on the none hsm tapes to recover these tapes back to our site - but there are some logical volumes which contain MSHSM.HMIGTAPE.DATASETS, my question is how can i get these copied back to the site where the tape came from as i was told not to use COPYCAT on HSM tapes??

Thanks in advance for any help

I have always used IEBGENER to copy ML2 tapes.

Beware connections to the tape.

Also, if you do copy to a different volser then you will need to update the CDS to reflect this. Perhaps something your storage people would have to do.

Other options include deleting the dataset, recovering from HSM backup and then remigrating the dataset. Please check the existence of a backup before deleting
