To get back to ISPF main menu without pressing F3

Postby johndavis » Sat May 07, 2011 10:57 am

Hi !

I am in the ISPF main menu. I am typing =3.4 and browsing the data sets. I want to get back to the ISPF main menu without pressing the function key F3 twice. Is there any command or option to do this ?

Thank You

F4.
The problem I have is that people can explain things quickly but I can only comprehend slowly.

Hi NiCc !

Thanks for the reply. If I am pressing the function key F4 - it does nothing. What might be the possible reason for this ?

depending On Your pfkeys customization it might be PF16
or any pfk to which is assigned the >command> RETURN
cheers

When I tell somebody to RTFM or STFW I usually have the page open in another tab/window of my browser,

Hi !

Thanks for all your replies. I tried with all the options and it does nothing. I have to return to the main ISPF panel by pressing the function key twice ( For eg - if i am in 3.4).
I am in training and might be using a mainframe simulator.

Does using a Mainframe Simulator matters in using F4 or other options that you guys mentioned ?

Thanks

before replying I always test and my reply was correct

use the KEYS command to find out the PFK assignments
check if the PF4 is NOP and overtype the NOP with RETURN

or assign the RETUN command to any pfk of Your choice
cheers

Hi !

The PF keys assignments are shown as a default in some of the panel screen ( For example typing SDSF, I can see the PF key assignments in the bottom of the screen ).
It shows PF4= Return. But the function key F4 is not taking me to the main ISPF panel and I have to press F3 twice.

When I type the command "KEYS" in the main ISPF Panel Menu, it says "Invalid Option".

When I typed 0 and went into the settings panel where normally PF KEY assignments options are found but there are no options as such. But when I tried typing "KEYS" here, it says "Authorization Failure".

Thanks

from the above edit screen hit PF16
and ISPF went back to theISPF primary option menu

the process works, my suggestion is again right

nothing we can do from here because we do not have access to Your environment
we would only waste time

the system is not at fault,
try to understand better the explanations we give You
and Your system setup

anyway beware about indiscriminate use of the facility
when editing something and invoking the RETURN function
all the cahnges will be discarded without any warning
cheers
